Jeffrey Lazarus, PhD, MIH, MA, is a globally recognized expert in health systems and public health, focusing on MASLD/MASH and viral hepatitis. He is a Professor of Global Health at the CUNY School of Public Health (SPH) and a Research Professor at the Barcelona Institute for Global Health (ISGlobal) in Spain. He is the past Vice-Chair of the EASL International Liver Foundation, Board Chair of AFEW International, and was the first Director of Health Systems Global. He also spent 11 years at the World Health Organization. He currently serves as Director of MASH Cities and the Global Think-tank on Steatotic Liver Disease, and as Chair of the global coalition Healthy Livers, Healthy Lives.
Dr. Lazarus earned his PhD from Lund University and master’s degrees from Georgetown University and the University of Copenhagen. Among his >400 articles, he has led numerous seminal studies including the steatotic liver disease research and action agendas and he led the methodology for the new nomenclature. He serves on the editorial boards of the Journal of Hepatology and Liver International.
